Dangerous future?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more and more intelligent. AI is a branch of computer science that emulates certain human intelligence, such as speech recognition, creative behaviour, the ability to learn from experience and to draw conclusions from incomplete information. That all sounds great doesn’t it. Here is even a list of a few companies that research and produce AI. Companies like Amazon, Apple, Microsoft & Google are creating personal assistants, like Alexa, Siri, Cortana and Google assistance, who can assist the users with whatever they need. A lot of people are using Alexa constantly at home. A company called Banjo programmed Ai that uses social media to identify dangerous people and inform emergency services. A safer world is what we all want. Eliminating threats before they do anything sounds great. Let’s just hope the program is not biased like humans. Another company called DJI are designing autonomous drones. That would replace tons of jobs that require humans like delivery person and cameraman. We like convenience so the companies are doing what they got to do right? HiSilicon and Qualcomm are developing AI smartphone chip for face recognition, object recognition, etc... IBM wants to integrate AI into business processes, such as building a chatbot for customer support. Now customer support does not need humans anymore. Is that a good thing? Intel is creating an AI acceleration for the Bing search engine. This would make everything work faster and more efficiently. Companies like Nvidia and Sense Time are focused on autonomous driving. Can you imagine a world with autonomous cars? There probably will be fewer traffic jams and accidents in the future. All these companies are having historic breakthroughs with their AI research. And honestly, it is amazing that something as complex as humans can be recreated even though only partially. By creating AI we are also learning more about ourselves as human beings.

Now you may be wondering why can artificial intelligence be dangerous. I mean it has so many benefits. Like AI increases work efficiency. As humans, we make mistakes constantly. If it at work, school or just day to day experiences. We all make mistakes since there is so much we need to keep track of that we just forget some other things. AI is more efficient and does not procrastinate and make mistakes like humans. They work more accurately than humans. For example, in science humans can´t precisely add the same amount of chemicals each time, since our reaction time can be delayed. AI can save the cost of staff training and care. Not needing to hire humans can make a business run so much smoother, but that is what is worrying the government. Many people already lost their job due to automation. Now more will lose it due to AI. Arguably, there are many jobs a robot can´t have where human interaction is of uttermost importance, but some other jobs can be easily replaced. That leads us on to the next disadvantage of AI. AI can cause a lot of humans to lose their job. How will humanity survive without earning money to survive? Another disadvantage is that AI is not sustainable. AI needs rare components, which is limited. Who did not see it coming? AI is also a threat to humanity since they can become evil as you see in movies. Eventually, AI will become so competent that you don't need humans anymore. We are so busy fighting each other, without realizing the future threat is just looming on the horizon. AI can be turned into autonomous weapons. They can hurt tons of people with little effort. Without feelings, it is easier to hurt others. AI can also violate privacy which can be exploited and can lead to bullying. And as we all know from nature. It is survival of the fittest. Do we stand a chance against the autonomous robots who know everything about us? The more intelligent always have control and we have to face the facts that we eventually might not be the most intelligent.

Since AI is still in the development phase and it is not entirely known when AI will be able to take over the world, we should not worry about it today. There is also little evidence that the disadvantages I mentioned will actually eliminate humanity as a whole, but right now I am just stating the facts and preparing you for the future. It may be a distant future, but it is getting closer and closer with each passing day. There is little we can do about it, but it could also be that AIs are more advantageous for humans.

I recently found Video that goes into detail about this topic. You should check it out:

This article made me sound a bit paranoid and I am sorry if I scared anyone, but I just had this unfinished article lying around and I just thought it would be a good idea to post something about what we are aware of, but unaware of at the same time. Do not worry the AI takeover won´t happen overnight, but it will happen over time. This gives you some time to prepare.
