Fashion Designs (II)

Since the exam phase is not over just yet and I cannot find enough time to draft, research and write another article about a topic that has been bothering me and since I am slowly running out of art I drew on my tablet (I can´t seem to find the time to do draw more), I will post another article about some sketches I made.

Just like last time, this collection is rather monotone since I did not really take the colour scheme under consideration when I was drawing these. My attention was solely focused on making it look good in digital form. Even after many designs, I just can´t get it right when it comes to making the digital look as good as the one on paper.

I guess I am writing a tad too much about the things that are for this article, seemingly irrelevant. Therefore, without further ado, some sketches with a lot of opinions.

If I can be frank, I can remember for a fact that this is not something I thought of. Normally when I sketch these designs, I don’t have a plan and just make up my mind as I go, I rarely know what I am drawing beforehand. With this design, however, I knew how it would look like beforehand which means it is not mine.

This design is from Batman vs. Superman. A dress Wonder Woman wore to an event but I frankly can´t remember what kind of that even it was. Luckily, it does not matter here in this article so, I digress.

What I like about that dress is how elegant yet revealing it is. There is not much to say besides that. This dress is only in this collection because I used it as drawing practice to get used to the workings of the tablet and to get used to the three perspective drawing.

In that movie, Batman vs. Superman, that dress has a rich wine red colour with a golden necklace and belt. However, I believe this dress would look as exquisite in a royal blue tone with a silver necklace and belt. In my mind, I also believe that this look would work with white and rose gold as well. The combinations are endless, but since I prefer cold colours, I will always be biased.

Now thinking about it, maybe the red was intentioned but not from an artistic standpoint. After revisiting that scene from Batman vs. Superman again, I believe the red colour has more cinematic importance than artistic. Either way, a good colour choice, simple yet bold.

As the movie already pointed out, this dress would be ideal for a formal high-end event. However, this outfit could also be worn in the context of date night at a fancy restaurant or just a fancy night out in a casino. The high-end fancy outing possibilities are endless.

In all honesty, I don’t think this design came from me either. I just saw summer dresses that look rather bland in my opinion and made some adjustments to suit my tastes.

The thing is summer maxi dresses sold in stores, just all seem identical to one another besides small changes in colour, pattern or design. This design just doesn’t seem to stray too far from the norm so I don’t consider this my design.

However, this does not stop me from exploring the different directions that could be taken with a dress like this and endless possibilities in the realm of reality.

First things first, unlike what the drawing suggests, I want that dress to be completely backless since in the current state that strip above the belt just doesn’t look as good as without it completely.

Since it is a summer dress, I believe the fabric used needs to be light and flowy. The colour scheme should also be cool rather than hot since summer days are already hot enough, one´s outfit shouldn’t make it even hotter.

For the belt and necklace, I imagined something soft that would match the cool colour of the dress or some thin sailor´s rope and the rope colour, so it would contradict that cool summer dress colour. Either option just seems plausible to me.

This dress would be ideal for some summer beach party or even a fancy yacht party. Since this dress would not stand out in a fancy setting or a normal one.

The discovery of this design was completely accidental. Long story short, I failed at removing the t-shirt I was wearing, and I just thought that would look pretty cool as a design. Frankly, I am not wrong since it does look cool in my opinion. This is also the first time my incompetence actually did some good.

When it comes to colour, I haven´t given it much thought since I am lost. Then I thought, I could think of colour if I can think of an event I would wear something like that to and let´s just say I failed at that too.

I am not sure if the top and bottom should be the same colour or different colours. Since no one can go wrong with black and white, I think the top white and bottom black would not be the worst idea with a golden ring. However, that just seems bland but I can´t think of anything else so I am just going to leave that there.

As for the event I would wear that to, I frankly have no idea. Maybe I would wear that to a club because it is revealing to a certain extent. However, more events I can´t think of.

This is one of the designs I like to call pleasant surprises since I did not plan this but the end results turned out rather nicely.

When it comes to the colours, I think that a rosy red pink colour would be ideal. The belt would just be a darker colour than the rest of the dress.

Since I imagined this dress to be rather fluffy, I was thinking of a soft mesh. With the mesh, the layering of each layer would look very puffy and brings a bit of structure to this dress.

I believe that this is not an everyday dress and should only be worn to special events. Whether it is a black-tie wedding or a walk down the red carpet, this would fit right in.

Again, this is not my design. This is how I wished my prom dress would have looked. Since my prom dress was on the cheap end of the spectrum, I am not complaining but all I am saying is that there can be work done.

As for the real-life dress, I didn’t get to wear that dress to prom because prom never took place due to the still ongoing pandemic. The drawing is just an idealized version of how I saw myself going to prom after graduation.

The dress did not give the back of the dress as much attention as the front so I thought it would be a fun activity to complete that dress. Otherwise, I like that dress very much since it has this asymmetrical front short back long skirt, which I adore.

The dress has an aquamarine turquoise colour which I adore so I wouldn’t change anything in that aspect. The silver beading around the waist also looked lovely so I wouldn’t want to change that either.

Since the real-life version of this dress is a flowy dress, I would like to keep it that way. Nevertheless, there is a change I want to make when it comes to the choice of fabric, I would want to use a softer chiffon fabric than the one currently in use.

As for the events one can wear this dress to, the prom would be an outstanding example. However, any fancy event would do.

As mentioned, I have a strong liking for the asymmetrical front short back long skirts, therefore another one of those.

The inspiration for this comes from a casual dress I wear around the house all day during those hot summer weeks. But instead of the crop top top, I thought it would look cooler if it were an off-shoulder top.

The overlaying shoulder strap makes the colour scheme interesting and fun. I want the belt around the waist to have the same colour as the smaller shoulder strap. As for the larger shoulder strap, I would want the colour to be identical to the skirt of that dress.

I haven´t quite figured out how the back of the top should look but I don’t think some parts of both colours on the back would be too farfetched. I don’t want to use too contradictory colours, so I am thinking of a darker colour for the skirt and bigger shoulder strap while the belt and the smaller shoulder strap get the lighter version of the same colour.

For material, I believe serge fabric would be quite fitting. Since this outfit should look professional as well as chic. This means that this could be worn to black tie company events or even some other fancy party.

Last but not least, the dress which took quite some time planning. Like many of the designs, I stumble upon, this has an interesting story of how I stumbled upon that design.

The story being that when I was in the bathroom after a shower, my towel fell and out of reflex, I manage to hold onto one corner of that towel. Much to my surprise, the towel stayed wrapped around me and looked kind of like a cute outfit as well.

When I got out of the shower, I immediately started planning. It took quite some time since I was not sure how that dress could work in reality. In the end, I settled with a choker necklace going around the neck holding everything else in place.

The colours of this should be quite simple. A periwinkle violet dress. The top being periwinkle while the skirt is violet. Or something else along those lines. I just think one colour would be really bland given the dress has layers and should have at least two colours if not three (a darker purple for the choker).

I haven’t given the material of the design much thought but it should be a fabric which is firm but at the same time also a bit soft. I know it seems a bit impossible, but I just want the dress to have some sort of structure and flow a bit as well.

This is a clubbing outfit more than anything. This design does not look too fancy but it wouldn’t look too out of place in a fancy event besides the fact that it is way too revealing for that sort of event.

Instead of having variety in this collection, I didn’t diverse that much. Most outfits are for formal events and that just seems bland but at the same time these kinds of dresses are my design style so I am not sure if my future designs will drift from these designs too much.
